3PBP - third-party bill payer. What is it, and how do we use them?
Third-party bill payers (3PBP) is a "parent" company that has bill payment responsibility for other "child" companies in our database.
Typically, each company in our database is set up to pay its own bills.
In some situations, we have clients who pay bills through a centralized corporation that is set up as a company in our system. However, this centralized bill payer does not actually receive services. This is considered the parent company or 3PBP "third-party bill payer".
In situations like these, the locations that actually receive our services are set up under separate companies. The reasons for this are multifaceted but mostly relate to account management needs such as different service location entities or historic account evolution.
Steps to set this up:
- To set up the parent as a 3PBP in HubSpot, you must select the property in the parent company. "Is third-party bill payer? - Yes":

- Once this is completed, the locations that are paid by this 3PBP must be associated with this parent 3PBP in HubSpot. This is done by associating the child locations and applying the Parent-Child Association label:

- You can review the associated companies from either the child or the parent in the association section, which is where the screenshot above came from.
- Billing contacts and additional billing contacts should only be set on the parent 3pBP company.
